Kevin Laland, University of St. Andrews, UK
Kevin Laland is Professor of Evolutionary and Behavioural Biology at St Andrews University. His research focuses on (i) animal social learning and the roots of human culture, (ii) human evolution, particularly gene-culture co-evolution, and (iii) niche construction, on which topics he has published over 200 scientific articles and 10 books. His laboratory combines comparative experimental investigations of innovation, social learning, diffusion and tradition in humans, nonhuman primates, birds and fishes, with mathematical models and simulation studies of learning, cultural evolution, gene-culture co-evolution, and the evolution of human cognition. He is an Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
